When will I receive logistic information about my trip?

Avalanche courses will receive online course work, rental information, and course logistics 2 weeks before the start of your course.

All 1 day guided courses and trips will receive course logistic information 1 week before your trip.

What locations do you go to?  Where should I get lodging?

We are based out of Truckee, CA.  We utilize the Donner Summit area, the Hwy. 89 corridor between Truckee and Tahoe City, and the Mt. Rose area in North Lake Tahoe.  All of these locations are easily accessible from Truckee.  We also offer courses and trips near Carson Pass based out of South Lake Tahoe.  Any of these trips and courses would be clearly marked with the different location, with lodging options in South Lake Tahoe or Meyers, CA.

Backcountry rental gear is available from Tahoe Mountain Sports shop (11200 Donner Pass Rd Unit 5E, Truckee, CA 96161).  All gear must be picked up and dropped off by participant at shop.

Most all courses will make a decision on a trailhead 3 days ahead of the course based on snow coverage and quality, avalanche, and weather conditions.

Where will I meet my guide/instructor?

Avalanche courses and guided backcountry days will all meet at the trailhead on the morning of your course.  Exact time and location will be sent out ahead of time.

Intro to Backcountry Courses meet at our shop at 8am on course date:  Tahoe Mountain Sports (11200 Donner Pass Rd Unit 5E, Truckee, CA 96161).  We will get geared up with any rental and avalanche gear needed before heading out into the field.

When and how do I get rental gear?

Backcountry ski/splitboard rentals are available through Tahoe Mountain Sports at a TMS student discount.  You will receive info on how to reserve your rental gear before your course.  If in an avalanche course, you will need to pick up your rental gear the evening before your course begins-the Tahoe Mountain Sports shop closes at 6pm.  The avalanche course will be meeting in the field at 8am and there will not be time to get your rental equipment the morning of the course.

If taking an Intro to Backcountry course.  You will be instructed on how to reserve rental gear ahead of your course.  You will be able to pick up your gear the morning of your course when we meet at the shop at 8am.

Avalanche Safety Rental Gear can be rented through Tahoe Mountain School and will be brought to you by your guide or instructor the morning of the course or trip.  For most avalanche courses this will be meeting at a trailhead, or at the shop in the case of an Intro to Backcountry Course.
