1-day course designed to prepare backcountry skiers and splitboarders for more committing and longer tours into bigger mountain terrain. We instruct on skills and techniques to move safer and more efficiently while accessing steep and complex lines.
Skills and techniques covered:
Ski mountaineering gear and equipment
Advanced uphill techniques
Advanced transitions and gear management
Ski crampon use
Ice axe, boot crampon, and harness use
Roped ski lowers and rappelling
Moving through mixed terrain
Technical ski descent strategies
Advanced skiing or splitboarding skills required with previous backcountry skiing with climbing skins. Excellent physical condition.
Gear included: Ice axe, harness, crampons, helmet-if needed, and all group gear. Ski crampons are mostly binding specific and would have to be purchased or rented ahead of course.
