Cancellation and Refund Policy

Cancellation and Refund Policy:

When you book a trip or course with Tahoe Mountain School, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions of our cancellation policy outlined below.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your course or trip for any reason (including medical, family emergencies, change in travel plans, etc.), Tahoe Mountain School requires written notice to our office 30 days in advance of the first day of the course. With 30 days or more notice we can refund your payment minus 20% for administrative costs or reschedule your course. Once we are within 30 days of the first day of the trip, we unfortunately cannot refund any portion of your payment or reschedule you even in the event of sudden illness or injury to you or your family. We recommend that you buy trip cancellation insurance (available through your travel or insurance agency) in case you get sick, injured, or unforeseen circumstances occur before or during your trip. If TMS must cancel a course or trip due to inadequate registration, etc. you will receive a full refund or can be rescheduled to another TMS course. However, TMS is not responsible for additional expenses incurred including non-refundable airline tickets, equipment, medical expenses, lodging, etc.

Travel, snow coverage, and weather conditions in the mountains can vary greatly and be challenging at times. Winter weather can have a significant impact on travel times, with temporary road closures, chain control, traffic, poor visibility, and other issues all possibly contributing to delays. There is a certain amount of inherent risk involved with winter driving in the mountains and we recommend that all participants take the time to be prepared for unforeseen circumstances or delays. Deep snow as well as low snow conditions also present specific backcountry travel issues and may alter the course itinerary. As these issues are a normal part of mountain travel, Tahoe Mountain School will not cancel courses due to weather, challenging travel conditions, or snow coverage.

On any course or trip, our guides reserve the right to remove any person for any reason. These reasons would generally stem from a person jeopardizing the safety of themselves or others. This includes a person who is not physically able to climb or ski/ride at the level necessary for the chosen course or trip objective. In all these cases, there are no refunds whatsoever, and the client will be responsible for any additional costs incurred in leaving the trip.
